A male student from a private university and a female student from a state university were apprehended by the Kadugannawa police on suspicion of producing a pornographic film for online distribution.
According to the police, the two suspects, aged between 28 and 29, had been operating this illicit operation by posing as school children.
However, upon further investigation, it was discovered that they were actually in a romantic relationship and were planning to get married in a few months.
A high-ranking police official stated that they conducted the raid based on information received from the public regarding the production of a pornographic film at a lodge in Kadugannawa. During the raid, the authorities found the young man and woman in possession of multiple mobile phones, a laptop computer, and various school uniforms.
During questioning, the suspects admitted that they had filmed the explicit scenes while dressed in school uniforms in order to make money from online viewers.
Further investigations revealed that over eight million people had viewed the pornographic content on various websites.
The young woman hails from Ruwanwella, while the young man is from the Pilimathalawa area. They were presented before the Kandy magistrate and granted bail under strict conditions.
