The Public Security Ministry announced that a week-long operation was initiated on Sunday to crackdown on drug traffickers and individuals involved in organized crimes. As a result, an additional 2,166 suspects, including 88 females, were apprehended yesterday. The police conducted a total of 2,210 raids within the past 24 hours, resulting in the arrests. Notably, over 800 suspects were apprehended in the Western Province alone. Among the arrested individuals, 66 are under investigation with detention orders, while 169 are on the IRC list of the Police Narcotics Bureau. Furthermore, 14 suspects are currently under investigation for their assets, and 226 individuals have been referred for rehabilitation. The police also seized various narcotics during the operation, including 01 kg and 370 gms of heroin, 07 kgs of cannabis, 556 gms of Ice narcotics, 3.5 kgs of Mawa, and 1,075 narcotic pills. The island-wide special operation, which involves the collaboration of the Police, Special Task Force (STF), and the armed forces, commenced at 4 a.m. on Sunday and will continue until December 23. Its primary objective is to combat drug trafficking and organized crimes, covering 45 police divisions across the island.
