ICC, November 23 – Marlon Samuels, a former West Indies cricketer, has been handed a six-year ban from all cricket activities after being found guilty of violating the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code.

The International Cricket Council (ICC), acting as the Designated Anti-Corruption Official under the ECB Code, charged Samuels with four offenses in September 2021. In August of this year, he was found guilty of these charges.

The ICC confirmed the six-year ban on Thursday, which will take effect from November 11, 2023.

The four charges that Samuels was found guilty of are as follows:

1. Article 2.4.2 (by a majority decision) – Failing to disclose the receipt of any gift, payment, hospitality, or other benefit that could bring disrepute to the Participant or the sport of cricket to the Designated Anti-Corruption Official.
2. Article 2.4.3 (unanimous decision) – Failing to disclose the receipt of hospitality valued at US $750 or more to the Designated Anti-Corruption Official.
3. Article 2.4.6 (unanimous decision) – Failing to cooperate with the Designated Anti-Corruption Official’s investigation.
4. Article 2.4.7 (unanimous decision) – Obstructing or delaying the Designated Anti-Corruption Official’s investigation by concealing relevant information.

Alex Marshall, the head of the ICC HR and Integrity Unit, announced the ban on Thursday.

“Samuels had a career spanning nearly two decades in international cricket, during which he attended numerous anti-corruption sessions and was well aware of his obligations under the Anti-Corruption Codes,” Marshall stated.

“Although he is now retired, Mr. Samuels was a participant when the offenses were committed. The six-year ban will serve as a strong deterrent to any participant who intends to violate the rules.”

Samuels represented the West Indies in over 300 matches during an 18-year period, scoring a total of 17 centuries. He also captained the team in ODIs.

He achieved the highest score in the final of the b.
