A total of 19 police officers, including a Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG), seven Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs), nine SSPs, and two ASPs, have been reassigned or appointed to new positions by Acting IGP Deshabandu Thennakoon, effective immediately.
According to the police, these transfers have been authorized by the National Police Commission.
This marks the initial round of transfers conducted by Thennakoon since assuming the role of Acting IGP.
As part of these changes, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police U.P.A.D.K.P. Karunanayake has been reassigned as the Senior DIG in charge of the Uva Province, moving from Ratnapura District. Additionally, Female Senior Superintendent of Police R.A.D. Ms. Kumari has been appointed as the Director of the Computer Crime Investigation Division, transitioning from Police Headquarters.
The DIGs who have been transferred are as follows:

– G.I.D.R. Wijesinghe, formerly in Galle District, has been appointed as the DIG in charge of the Field Force Headquarters.

Acting DIG H. Samudrajeewa has been transferred from the position of DIG in charge of the Western Province Community Police, Environmental Protection, and Public Order Management Division to the DIG in charge of the Shipping and Tourism Division.
Acting DIG H.C.A. Pushpakumara has been transferred from the Grievance Division to the DIG in charge of the Recruitment and Training Division.
Acting DIG. W.S.P de Silva has been transferred from the Prime Minister’s Security Division to the DIG in charge of the Prime Minister’s Security Division.
Furthermore, Senior Superintendent of Police D.M.M.A.B. Mahagirilla has been appointed as the Director of the Transport Division, transitioning from the National Police Training Institute.
