According to the Epidemiology Unit, the number of dengue cases reported in 2023 has exceeded 80,000. As of December 11, a total of 80,222 cases have been recorded, with the Colombo district having the highest number at 16,948. The Western Province has reported the highest number of cases among all provinces, with 37,216 cases. Additionally, in the month of December alone, 3,734 dengue cases have been logged. Unfortunately, 47 individuals have lost their lives due to dengue this year. Health officials strongly advise individuals to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings and eliminate mosquito breeding sites to prevent the spread of dengue.
