According to prison sources, an inmate at Kalutara Prison passed away this morning (Dec. 26) after being hospitalized due to an assault. The deceased, identified as P.G. Sunil, was a 46-year-old resident of the Karavita area in Molkawa, as stated by the police.
Following the assault at the prison, the deceased was admitted to Kalutara Teaching Hospital in Nagoda on Sunday (24). Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries early this morning while receiving treatment in Ward No. 05.
The body has been transferred to the mortuary of Kalutara Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
In response to the incident, the Kalutara Prison Superintendent informed the Kalutara-North Police, leading to the initiation of a special investigation.
The crimes unit of Kalutara-North Police is currently conducting investigations into the incident.
