Yesterday, one of the two Giraffes at the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens passed away, with suspicions pointing towards an allergy as the cause of death, according to Ranjan Marasinghe, the Director General of the National Zoological Gardens. Marasinghe informed the Daily Mirror that the giraffe had been dealing with an infection on one of its front hoofs, and it is possible that the antibiotics given to the animal triggered an allergic reaction. The exact reason for the giraffe’s demise cannot be confirmed until the postmortem report is received. Throughout the previous week, the giraffe had been battling with the infection.
