The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has announced that the first group of workers selected for jobs in the Israeli agricultural sector departed from Katunayake Airport last night (18). This initial group consisted of thirty individuals. Another group of twenty workers is scheduled to leave for Israel this morning (19), followed by an additional group of thirty workers tonight (19).

The Minister of Foreign Employment handed over air tickets to the workers in a ceremony held yesterday to commemorate International Migrant’s Day. During the event, the Minister highlighted that, as per a bilateral agreement between the two countries, a total of 10,000 workers will have the opportunity to fly to Israel in the coming weeks.

The Minister emphasized that there is no need for individuals to pay any money to secure these job opportunities. If it is discovered that someone has paid money to obtain these jobs, they will be repatriated, as both governments have agreed on this matter.

Furthermore, the Minister announced that Israel has also agreed to hire 2,000 workers for job opportunities in the construction sector.
