The Railways Department has announced that train services on the central hills have been restricted to Nanu Oya railway station until further notice due to unfavorable weather conditions. The department reported that the railway tracks experienced obstructions on four separate occasions yesterday as a result of earth mounds collapsing on the upcountry railway track. The cancellation of the two-night mail trains was attributed to the heavy rainfall in the central hills. Specifically, the railway tracks between Ohiya and Idalgashinna stations were obstructed due to the collapse of an earth mound near the No. 31 tunnel at 5 a.m. Subsequently, the same location experienced obstructions for the second time at 10:30 a.m. and for the third time at 12:30 p.m. Additionally, the railway line between Hali-Ela and Demodara was obstructed last night around 10:15 due to the collapse of an earth mound. The department further noted that the railway line between Hali-Ela and Demodara was also affected by obstructions.
