On Wednesday evening, the Thirappane police arrested a group of four young men who were attempting to illegally capture closeup photos of tusker Agbo using a drone camera. The drone camera was seized by the police. Tusker Agbo, who had suffered gunshot injuries on one of its limbs, has been released after receiving treatment from the Wildlife Department surgeons. It is now frequently seen in the Thirappane area. The suspects are from different locations, namely Kumbukwewa in Maho, Meethotumulla, Kurundankulama in Anuradhapura, and Buthpitiya South in Gampaha. Acting on information received from the public and the Sri Lanka Air Force intelligence unit, the police promptly responded to the scene where they noticed a suspicious drone in the Thirappane skies. Further investigations revealed that the drone camera used by the suspects belonged to an individual in the Maho area. However, the suspects had not obtained the necessary permission from the relevant authorities to photograph in that area using a drone camera. A senior police official mentioned that the Sri Lanka Air Force has initiated an investigation into the foreign-made drone camera.
