The government has instructed the state-owned fertilizer companies to set the maximum selling price for MOP fertilizer (Muriate of Potash) at Rs. 9,000. This decision was made after a review meeting yesterday, which was attended by Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.

During the meeting, it was revealed that the two government-owned fertilizer companies currently have 27,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer available. Additionally, urea fertilizer has been distributed to all Agrarian Service Centres.

As a result, it has been decided that both urea fertilizer and MOP fertilizer will be sold at a price of Rs. 9,000 per bag. Minister Amaraweera has instructed the Director of the National Fertilizer Secretariat, Dr. Jagath Perera, to announce the maximum retail price for MOP fertilizer.

Furthermore, it has been reported that farmers are purchasing more high-quality organic fertilizers from the private sector this Maha season. While the Minister acknowledges the positive trend of encouraging farmers to use organic fertilizers, he also emphasizes the importance of using a certain percentage of both organic and chemical fertilizers for successful harvests.
