State Minister Sanath Nishantha formally apologized to Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena for his recent disruptive conduct within the House.

He conveyed his apology in a letter addressed to the Speaker. MP Nishantha expressed regret for his actions during the parliamentary session on Tuesday, November 21. He openly acknowledged that his behavior was inappropriate and should not have transpired in the esteemed legislative setting.

The State Minister further contended that the decision to hold him solely accountable for the entire incident, while sparing Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and SJB MP Nalin Bandara from any punitive measures, amounts to a violation of his parliamentary privileges.

The repercussions of this incident were pronounced on Wednesday, November 22, as Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena officially suspended Parliamentarian Sanath Nishantha for a two-week period. The suspension followed a thorough evaluation of the unruly behavior exhibited by Nishantha during the parliamentary proceedings.
