Sagala urges for expeditious policy determinations regarding the transfer of state-owned land to individuals

Sagala Ratnayake, the Presidential Senior Adviser on National Security and Chief of Presidential Staff, highlighted the urgency of making prompt policy decisions regarding the transfer of government apartment complexes’ home ownership to citizens through freehold deeds.

He revealed plans for an upcoming meeting led by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, which will involve relevant officials from various institutions to address the current challenges and establish a clear agreement.

This information was shared during a morning discussion at the Presidential Secretariat on December 22nd, focusing on the issues that arise during the transfer of ownership.

In accordance with President Wickremesinghe’s instructions, the objective is to grant freehold deeds to 8,351 houses by 2024. The discussions will delve into concerns regarding land ownership, clearances, certificates, guarantees, and recommendations.

The meeting was attended by Director General Shirantha Herath from the Chief of Staff Office, Director General N. P. K Ranaweera from the Urban Development Authority, Municipal Commissioner of the Colombo Municipal Council Ms J. M. Badrani Jayawardena, Chairman of the Condominium Management Authority Sarana Karunaratne, Commissioner General of the Land Commissioner General Department Bandhula Jayasinghe, Thimbirigasaya Divisional Secretary Ms Priyantha Dissanayake, and other officials from relevant agencies.
