The Seethawaka University Post Graduate Institute for Research will be named in honor of the late Minister Lalith Athulathmudali as a token of appreciation for his contributions to education through the establishment of the Mahapola Scholarship Fund, as stated by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

President Wickremesinghe delivered these remarks during his speech at the Mahapola 2023 Exhibition, which was organized by the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, and Food Safety and took place at the Municipal Council Grounds in Ja-Ela.

President Wickremesinghe emphasized the significant impact of Mahapola on education, highlighting its role in creating knowledgeable citizens and extending the benefits of the open economy to rural areas.

The Mahapola Trade Fair was initiated to support the Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Fund, which was established by the late former Minister Lalith Athulathmudali. The fund aims to provide educational opportunities for underprivileged children in Sri Lanka.

It is worth noting that this year marks the 226th Mahapola Fair, which is being held after a 10-year hiatus. The exhibition will continue until December 17 and features more than 350 diverse booths, providing a platform for inventors and entrepreneurs to showcase their products and explore potential markets. The exhibition commenced on December 13.

Furthermore, the President launched the website www.eservices.mahapola.lk, which offers an online donation facility for the Lalith Athalamudali Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Trust Fund.
