Parliament has given its approval to commence the discussion on the VAT amendment, with a majority of 51 votes in favor. Out of the total members, 92 voted in favor while 41 voted against. Additionally, 91 members were absent during the voting process, and Sudarshani Fernandopulle chose to abstain from voting.
In light of this decision, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced that the debate on the VAT amendment and the expenditure heads of the Ministries of Fisheries and Irrigation will be held today. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the duration of the sessions will be extended to accommodate these discussions.
