The Colombo High Court today fixed the inquiry of the bail application filed by Pastor Jerome Fernando’s lawyers, for January 4, 2024.

Pastor Jerome Fernando was arrested and remanded by the CID recently over his controversial comments on Buddhism and other religions.

When the bail application was taken up before High Court Judge Aditya Patabendi the inquiry was postponed for January 4, 2024.

Pastor Fernando, became the center of attention of various religious circles after a controversial video footage of one of his sermons appeared on social media, where alleged offensive statements concerning the Buddha and other religions were made that had led to a public uproar which in turn led the CID to take legal action against the pastor.

Following the telecast of the video footage on social media, Pastor Jerome Fernando left the country for Singapore.

In the meantime, the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court issued a travel ban on Pastor Jerome Fernando. He was arrested at the airport on his arrival and was remanded.

Senior State Counsel Shavendra Wickrama appeared for the Attorney General while President’s Counsel Anuja Premaratna appeared for Pastor Jerome Fernando.
