An individual affiliated with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) party, who held the position of district organizer in Kurunegala, has been apprehended during a drug-related operation. Consequently, the main opposition party has made the decision to temporarily suspend the party membership of Amitha Bandara, the aforementioned district organizer, following his arrest. Additionally, he has been relieved of his duties as the district organizer. Bandara was taken into custody on Thursday, December 21, while found in possession of illegal substances. In an official statement, Ranjith Madduma Bandara, the General Secretary of the SJB, announced that a final determination regarding Bandara’s status within the party would be made during the Working Committee meeting scheduled for today, December 22.
