According to Sri Lanka Customs, the import of Christmas decorations and goodies has significantly increased since the relaxation of import restrictions in October. Senior Director Seevali Arukgoda, the spokesperson for Customs, stated that large consignments of Christmas decorations and similar items have been arriving in the country in recent weeks to meet the festive demands. This is particularly noteworthy as festive decorations were previously restricted for two years, along with other imports. The majority of these consignments, particularly in 40-footer and 20-footer containers, originate from China, indicating active engagement in the business by many traders this year. Additionally, specialty food items, as well as floor and wall tiles, are also prominent on the current import lists.
