The payment of bonuses to staff members of commercial corporations, statutory boards, and state-owned companies for the year 2023 is subject to certain conditions set by the government. These conditions state that bonuses should only be paid if the state institutions have made profits in the fiscal year 2022 and have distributed at least 30% of the profit after tax as dividends to the Consolidated Fund.

In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Finance State Minister Shehan Semasinghe highlighted this requirement. He emphasized that any commercial corporations, statutory boards, or state-owned companies that have not met the dividend distribution criteria or have incurred losses in the fiscal year 2022 are not eligible to provide bonuses to their employees based on the institution’s profitability.
