Police have successfully identified a staggering number of 4,665 suspects involved in Internet Relay Chat (IRC) across various provinces. Within a remarkably short span of just three days, more than 500 individuals have been apprehended by law enforcement authorities

A total of 4,665 suspects listed as Island Re-convicted Criminals (IRCs) have been identified by the police in the country. The Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) has identified 1,425 suspects on the IRC list, while the Special Bureau has identified 3,340 suspects.

The majority of these individuals are located in various provinces. In the Western Province, there are 1,625 listed suspects, followed by 509 in the Southern Province, 346 in the Central Province, and 312 in the Northern Province.

Furthermore, there are 414 suspects listed in the Sabaragamuwa Province, 331 in the Uva Province, 381 in the North Central Province, 394 in the North West Province, and 353 in the Eastern Province.

In a week-long island-wide operation conducted by the police, 503 suspects from the IRC list were arrested within the first three days.

According to the police, 116 suspects were arrested on Sunday, 169 suspects were arrested on Monday, and 218 suspects were arrested yesterday.

The week-long operation, launched on Sunday to combat drug trafficking and organized crime, resulted in the arrest of an additional 2,296 suspects, including 85 females, bringing the total number of arrests within the first three days to 6,583, as reported by the Public Security Ministry.

Out of the suspects arrested during the operation yesterday, 109 are currently under investigation with detention orders. Additionally, investigations into the assets of 14 suspects have been initiated, and 184 individuals have been referred for rehabilitation.
