Despite declining the invitation to engage in a public debate with JVP member Wasantha Samarasinghe, as proposed by NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara has issued a fresh call for Dissanayake to personally participate in the debate.

During the parliamentary session, the Minister expressed that if MP Dissanayake intended to send Wasantha Samarasinghe as his representative, he would also arrange for someone to represent him.

“Anura Kumara has stated that his party has accepted my challenge for a public debate. He has mentioned that he will send Wasantha Samarasinghe as his representative. If he is sending his representative, I will also send mine. It is worth noting that Wasantha Samarasinghe is not even an MP. If he prefers, he can send Ranjan Jayalal, and in response, I can also send a trade union leader to participate in the debate,” he stated.

Minister Wijesekara emphasized that he had challenged Anura Kumara for a public debate regarding the statements made in Parliament, and he was fully prepared to engage in a debate with Dissanayake himself.

MP Dissanayake, who had accepted Minister Kanchana Wijesekara’s challenge earlier in the day, affirmed that his party was ready to face the challenge. He further stated that he would send Wasantha Samarasinghe to discuss matters concerning the CEB, fuel and coal purchases, and solar deals.
